THE CABINET Committee on Security (CCS) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet today to discuss the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The CCS will also decide on the demand made by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about the partial withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from four districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Cabinet Committee on Security headed by PM comprises Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and defence minister A.K. Antony. The CCS may also consider sending an all-party delegation to the troubled region in the state. According to the sources, it is also likely that the committeed could possibly consider the imposition of Governor's rule in the state.
Meanwhile, BJP has demanded that under no circumstances government should consider lifting of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from any disturbed district of the state. Party said that the security environment must be strengthened in the state.
Meanwhile, incidents of fresh violence rocked the state, where 24 people, including eight policemen, were injured in various parts of valley. Protesters set government buildings on fire, threw a petrol bomb at a CRPF bunker in Baramullah. Curfew, which was lifted ahead of Eid on Septermber 9 from the entire Kashmir Valley was again imposed in Srinagar and other areas of the state after fresh violence broke out.
