Chief Election Commissioner S. Y. Quraishi inaugurated the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIDEM) in New Delhi on Friday. The IIDEM will work for enhancing voters' education and awareness.
THE CHIEF Election Commissioner of India, S. Y. Quraishi and the Kenyan Election Commissioner Ken Nyaundi inaugurated the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIDEM) at the Election Commission of India premises in New Delhi on Friday.

The India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management is being developed in collaboration with the Government of India, United Nations, the Commonwealth and inter-governmental organisations like Sweden based International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA).
The institute has four components including training and capacity development, voter education and civic participation, research, innovation and documentation and international projects and technical collaboration.
The IIDEM will work for enhancing voter’s education and awareness, promoting democratic values and practices, to conduct free and fair elections in India. The first course of the IIDEM will begin from June 27 for the election officials from Kenya.
Initially the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIDEM) will operate from the "Nirvachan Sadan", but later the Institute will have its own campus in New Delhi, for which location is being finalised. In the own campus of the IIDEM, that will have training and conference facilities, hostel, library and resource centre.
During the inauguration of the IIDEM, besides from CEC of India S. Y. Quraishi and the Kenyan Election Commissioner Ken Nyaundi, the two Election Commissioners of India, V.S. Sampath and H. S. Brahma, senior officials of the Election Commission also attended the function.
