Celebrate being male; honour men in your life
This year, India celebrated International Men's Day for the third time along with 23 other countries around the globe. Motorcycle and car rallies were conducted in all major cities in India.
MEN AND women across the world celebrated International Men’s Day on Thursday. This year, India celebrates International Men’s Day for the third time along with 23 other countries around the globe. Motorcycle and car rallies were conducted in all major cities in India to reach out to the public and encourage them to celebrate this day.

In Hyderabad, a vehicle rally started from Public Gardens at 8:30 a.m. and concluded at Hitech City around noon. The message for everyone on International Men’s Day -- most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them. The above is a quote of Henry David Thoreau, who observed that most men are enslaved to their work and to those for whom they work. True to his words, everyday, men protect and provide for families. Men render many services that make the society comfortable for everyone. Men make many contributions to science, technology and health of all.

Men perform the most dangerous and difficult jobs in the world. Men take risks and die to save other lives during calamities and war. Every day and everywhere, as we are busy idolizing movie stars, athletes and other celebrities as role models, the common men around us - the academic achievers, social leaders, champions of the environment, artists, comedians, soldiers, farmers, fishermen, fire fighters, and those more humble males who, on a daily basis, clean our streets, build our houses, fix our vehicles, police our streets, deliver newspapers and milk, and care for children - dedicate themselves to their work and continue to serve everyone.

On International Men’s Day, here is a message to all men: Celebrate being male. Tell your story and sing your song! We will listen, cheer, remember and support you. On International Men’s Day, we call upon all men and women to recognize and honour men for the numerous services they render and the innumerable sacrifices they make for the health and well-being of our families and society. We call upon everyone to celebrate the men in our lives - our fathers, brothers, partners, sons, male friends, neighbours and colleagues.

We urge everyone to say no to male bashing no to stereotyping of men. Realize man is not an ATM and unpaid body guards. Stop violence against men. Understand men too need love and care. Understand men too need protection; demand true gender equality; demand gender-neutral laws; demand men’s welfare ministry.

Organizations, which celebrated International Men’s Day in Hyderabad -- All India Forgotten Women, Andhra Pradesh Mothers-in-law Protection Association, Mothers and Sisters Initiative, Children’s Rights Initiative for Shared Parenting, All India Men’s Welfare Association, Rishtey and Save Indian Family Foundation.

.Rajiv I'm thank ful to you for using "most of them are not hypocratic" :). Usually henpecked men belive all WOMEN are saints. Atleast you spared some of them. At the same time i feel pity about your ignorance about cruetly not just on MEN but against the whole family when petty issues in marriage makes life rocky. I would like to seek your opinion, why would double the number of men commit suicide than women due to family problems? It is more than 56000 men in India with over 10% increase every year!
.How convenient Rajiv! Let us look at males only from the angle of corruption, terrorism, rape, violence etc. Where is your equality? If men are capable of corruption, so are women. If men are capable of murder, so are women. Now your argument is like this - People with the last name Azad, commit only 5% of the total murders, so let us not include Azads in the law. Let us let these Azads get away with murder, because the percentage is very small. People likke you do not comprehend the lofty ideas like "eqality before law". Until the system you support comes home to roost and torment you. Then, like a cry-baby you will come crawling, uttering cuss words, and demanding everyone pay attention to your problems. We have seen many wuzzies like this in our counseling sessions.
.Rajiv, Appreicate if you understand the effort Uma and the Group of Men / Mothers / Sisters have tried to portray. Its not about Women its not about Men, its all about our attitude towards Society and brininging in Parity in this Society. Surely we are not the smarter lot as compared to our ancestors who had defined the Society as such and how the Society needs to be run. Rather than looking at a narrow perspective of life, do remember it was Men like Raja Ram Mohan Roy who with their extreme efforts were able to demolish a concept called as Sati whereas Men like you would rather sit and comment on Activists who are here to make a difference. - Wake Up Rajiv, stand up for your Rights or would you learn only when the so called Nation of ours takes your Rights as an individual away. - We all here respect Women, our Mothers, Sisters, Daugthers but we also respect our individualism and our Freedom and hence the Men's Day is a necessity of the day. -- You speak about Hypocrisy, look at you and dig deeper and surely you will find yourself to be a great hypocrate yourself. Respect yourself first and then try and respect women.
.great going ... men don't have to be apologetic for being men!
.Hi Uma, you have only depicted bright side of the man, what about those men who are involved in corruption, terrorism, gender discrimination, rape, violence and many other antisocial activities. I respect women becoz most of them are not hypocritic.....no point in celebrating men's day....

Rajiv, Men's day celebration is planned for only Men. Thanks for your concern.
Rajiv ji, Uma didnot mention any where about each and every man. She her self a woman, that it self is showing the necessacity of this. As we say; Every coin has two sides, every human being has right and wrong. By your name You sound be a man, so does it mean that did you do any personal harm to any woman, and that is caused them to celebrate Women's day? There is no doubt Men are sufferring because of the nonsense Laws. And no body is understanging our pain unless they them self faced the problems. But Uma is trying to make the people aware of the other side of the coin. First of all, We are all Humans, with the name of women's development, you can't degradre the whole Male. This is some thing like, " There are Two glasses, assuming one has 3/4th of water and the other has just 1/4th, to make it even all you need is trasfer the excessive 1/4th from the first to the second one so that both are 1/2, but just because the first one has more, you can't just lift that first glass and continue pouring from it to the secon one" This is totally injustice." The same thing is happenning with the Men and their families in many of the cases. Know where the problem is and fix it, don't care about the gender.
What about those women who are involved in corruption, terrorism, gender discrimination, rape, violence and many other antisocial activities? I respect men because not many are like these women..therefore I respect myself and therefore I celebrate the International Men's Day.
