Why are social media-based celebrity endorsements an important consideration today? This is because social media became the only marketing channel for the brands. Consumers are increasingly looking to their social networks for advice on products. But blindly following them may be harmful for us, and hence Central Consumer Protection Councils (CCPC) has planed to penalize brands and celebs, that makes false claims about their products in the advertisements.
Bollywood actresses Katrina Kaif and Sonakshi Sinha, who endorses several brands have welcomed the move of the Central Consumer Protection Council. The aim of CCPC is to spread consumer awareness and to protect the right of the consumer. As per the new law the unsatisfied clients, can not only sue the brand but also the celebs endorsing the brand for misleading them.
Actress Katrina Kaif, one of the hottest brand endorsers in the circuit, said that this was an excellent move as it will make the actors more careful and responsible for choosing the brands they endorse.
“I think its very good, as it will enforce quality control, and is going to make the actor and the brand a little more responsible and careful in making a claim. You should never mislead people, if you are making a promise in an add film or an advertisement, hopefully your product should deliver that promise,"Katrina Kaif.
When actress Sonakshi was asked, that whether she would now be more careful in signing the endorsement, the actress said, she always thinks carefully before taking up any endorsement deal, and it is important to do so.
