Cells feast on each other when dieting: Study
A research led by scientists at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in New York has revealed that when a person diets, the brain cells eat into one another due to lack of nutrition.

A STUDY conducted at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in New York in the United States has revealed that excessive dieting can end up your brain cells eating away the other cells. In the race for survival, the brain cells, like the other parts of the body start eating away as the nutrition level required by them is not available.

The process is initiated when the body starts secreting fatty acids, which sends the signal to the brains and spruces up our desire to it. However, the research also mentioned that this finding can establish new standards for scientifically proven weight loss treatments.

The findings also known as autophagy came into light when the tests were conducted on mice and a conclusion was reached upon when the hunger was controlled in response to starvation. The results were published in a journal, which stated that due to the chemical change that had taken place in their bodies, the mice had reduced considerable amount of weight and had also become lighter.

Dr. Rajat Singh who helmed the study, was quoted saying by a leading British daily that a pathway that is really important for every cell to turn over components in a kind of housekeeping process is also required to regulate appetite. Treatments aimed at the pathway might make you less hungry and burn more fat, a good way to maintain energy balance in a world where calories are cheap and plentiful.
