Centre asks Karnataka to deal strictly with miners
Union government in a strict directive has asked the Karnataka government to act tough against illegal mining in Bellary and surrounding areas.
Union government in a strict directive has asked the Karnataka government to act tough against illegal mining in Bellary and surrounding areas. The government has also asked Karnataka to take tough measures against the miners controlling the illegal activity and holding the administration to ransom.

Earlier, the union government in a letter to the Karnataka chief minister had maintained that mining in the Bellary region was in violation of the Forest Advisory Committee resolution, which was issued on May 10, 2010.

This missive is the second letter sent to the Karnataka chief minister in this regard as the union government is taking this issue very seriously. Union Mines minister B K Handique in a letter to the Karnataka CM had asked him to order a CBI probe into the entire mining controversy.

On May 10, the Forest Advisroy Committee had withdrawn the clearance given to three mine owners for carrying out illegal mining activities in Sandur Forest Areas and these included SB Minerals, Trident Minerals and Veeyam Minerals.
