A nationwide 7-day long celebration has been planned to mark the 70 years of Independence of the country along with marking the 75th anniversary of the 'Quit India movement', to "rekindle the spirit of patriotism" among commoners. The event that has been planned by the Narendra Modi government and will be organised from August 15 to 22.

The celebration is going to be nothing less than a mega show. It will involve the government and the citizens in over 150 locations. The Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu while giving the particulars of the planned event said, "This is to make the new generation remember the contributions of freedom fighters, especially those who have remained unsung in the past."

As per the plan, about 150 places that have some link with the freedom movement have been selected and about 75 union ministers will visit those places during this period. "Each minister will travel to at least two of these places in different states," informed Mr Naidu.

Well, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also take part in the celebrations apart from addressing the nation on Independence Day. Notably, women ministers have been asked to visit border areas and tie rakhis to jawans in a bid to make them a part of these celebrations as well. These minsters will also emphasize on their crucial role in protecting the borders.

Besides, freedom fighters and jawans who have received bravery awards will be felicitated as a part of the event. Apart from that, essay competitions will be organised in schools on the general theme of the struggle for Independence by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry. Besides, a promotion of khadi and sports meets would also be a part of the event.

During the week's period, patriotic movies and songs would be shown on Doordarshan channel and All India Radio. Mr Naidu will make a similar appeal to private television channels as well to do the same. "It is not a party programme. We appeal all other political parties to take part in the way they would like to and make it a success," said Mr Naidu.
