Most demands for statehood in India are nothing but agendas for personal political gain. If the agitation in Telangana continues further, it could prevent growth and development there.
THERE OUGHT to be an end to the demand for statehood coming from various political parties. These are nothing but political gimmicks. The central government should consider all these demands as a threat to development and warn the political parties of action if things go out of hand.
In Andhra Pradesh, the demand for statehood has become a menace. The Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) has even been rejected by the people of Telangana in the recent elections. Even after this, the party's MLAs continue to agitate in the Assembly, disrupting its proceedings. The TRS had contested in about 45 seats and won only ten seats. Interestingly, the party did not win even a single seat in Hyderabad city. Everybody knows that TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao is continuing with the party for the sake of his family members alone and not for the sake of the people of Telangana.Nearly everyone in Telangana questions Rao and wonder why the party has never contested in all 119 assembly seats. He has always needed to ally with either the TDP or Congress in order to boost his strength on the floor. In the recent elections as well, the TRS allied with the TDP and Left parties and failed miserably. In the fierce electoral fight, the Congress managed to secure 50 seats out of 119 seats in Telangana.
Already, in-fighting has begun within the cadres and a new organisation called the Telangana Vikas Samithi (TVS) has been formed by his close associate and MLC Kapilavai Dilipkumar. It is nothing but an indication that KCR’s domination in the party is diminishing. The newly-formed organisation only concentrates on agitations and not on local interests, according to Dilipkumar. KCR has also inducted his son Taraka Rama Rao along with his nephew MLA Harish. One thing is evident - that KCR has fallen out with his nephew Harish and has brought in his son Rama to take his place. By becoming an MLA, Rao can now check on Harish within the party. Ultimately, it's all about preserving political influence, rather than achieving the goal of Telangana. When we witness this tamasha (drama), it becomes apparent that their cause is fake. The Union Home Ministry should be vigilant and curb the false demands of selfish politicians.
