Challenges are Indefinable: Amit Bhatt aka Champaklaal Chacha of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah
We should be thankful to Sab TV for making us laugh with its' serials like Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma. Each character in this serial has his own special place. But the audience is more curious to know about the real age of Champaklaal Chacha. Amit Bhatt who plays the role of Champaklaal, is surprisingly, much younger than his character in the serial. After contributing his acting skills in theater, he made a switch over to the small screen.

Although, he has worked in many serials and short plays (Radio), but his wise-cum-comic character in TMKOC has gained more popularity. Let's get to know more about him.

Q: Tell us about your journey from being theater artist to playing the role of Champaklaal Chacha in TMKOC.

Amit Bhatt (AB): I gave my 16 years to theater. Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma is not my first serial, as earlier I have worked in many serials like Yes Boss, Chupke Chupke, Funny, Gupshup Coffee Shop etc. then I worked in the serial FIR for three years, and after it went off air, I appeared before everyone as Chamapk Chacha.

Q: You look far older than your age in TMKOC. What made you play Champaklaal Chacha's role and how tough it was for you?

(AB): Yes, the role was quite challenging, but it was not that tough. For an actor every role comes with its own set of challenges, and challenges are indefinable. So, you can say it was challenging and fortunately I succeed in cracking it.

Q: Tell us something about your family. How supportive are your family members?

(AB): My family supports me like anything. They always encourage me to move ahead and accept challenges without any hesitation.

Q: How TMKOC changed your life?

(AB): Before TMKOC people hardly knew me. But I gained recognition after the serial FIR. Apparently, the recognition of an actor depends on the popularity of the serial and same happened in my case. With the popularity of Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, people started recognizing me, and now I regret for being that popular. Certainly, popularity never lets you live a normal life. It irritates me that how popularity took my 'common man' tag. Either you are in restaurant or any market place, people nag you like anything. I accept they adore my character in TMKOC and cherish my presence in public places, but somewhere I think, popularity took my privacy.

Q: Difference between reel life and real life Amit Bhatt.

(AB):The same difference Amit Bhatt and Champaklaal Chacha share.

Q: If not an actor then what?

(AB): I dont know. Since, school time I am into acting. I got a role in Doordarshan Channel's Gujarati serial. After a year I started working with a Radio channel's short play. Even during college, I kept participating in inter college competitions. So, this is how my acting career took off and reached here. This was my dream and I am living it truly.

Q: Your character in TMKOC is loved by everyone, however, many a times an actor get bored of playing the same character for long. What is your say on this?

(AB): Except Sab TV, other channels are more into exaggerating the same old stories. These serials shows how a particular family is facing hardships unnecessarily. Possibly, the never ending twists and turns in these serials complicate things more. The actors who are working in TMKOC can never get bored as the newness, concept and storyline of every single episode never lets anyone get bored of their character, and as it is a comedy serial, we enjoy our work like anything, while entertaining our audience. Perhaps, on both parts, entertainment is the foremost concern.

Q: Your experience while working with Shashank Bali.

(AB): Every actor and director has his own way of working. Shashank bali directed FIR in his own way with his unique directing skills, and seriously I enjoyed working with Shashank Bali. Other directors whom I worked with were also well polished with their skills. So, I learned a lot and enjoyed my work with each director, and I believe if you have faith in yourself then things always work positively.

Q: Being a citizen of this nation, how do you see the national government's approaches like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan etc.?

(AB): We don't require any initiatives to save the girl child or clean India, if people themselves understand their responsibility. It is our prerogative to carry forward the approaches which were initiated by the concerned authorities. The success of any approach totally depends on us, and I appreciate the move of Modi ji too. Evidently, clicking a selfie with daughter and posting it on social networking cannot change anyone's thoughts. So, it is our duty to bring changes in society and in our mindset. I am with Modi ji and I support his approaches.

Q: What are your future plans?

(AB): Currently, I am working with TMKOC and I wish it never goes off air. People keep liking us and cherishing our presence on the small screen. I wish things never end and I continue my journey with TMKOC, and the series of laughter continues for long.
