Champions League T20 preview: Mumbai Indians Vs Rajasthan Royals
The much awaited 2013 Champions League T20 is all set to start today with its first match, where Mumbai Indians take on Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Both these teams have had a good outing in the last edition of the IPL, which holds them in good stead for the competition.
Mumbai Indians comprises of a number of star players in their ranks and on their day, it could be very difficult for any team to defeat them. Players such as Sachin Tendulkar
, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Kieron Pollard will play a key role in the tournament, if they are to win the 2013 Champions League T20
. It is not only their batsmen, which needs to stand out but also their bowlers such as Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Mitchell Johnson just to name a few.
Royals may not comprise of huge stars like that of Mumbai
Indians, but they do have some effective players, who could turn the game on its head. With Rahul Dravid
leading the team from the front, one can expect a disciplined and a consistent performance by Rajasthan Royals.
Players such as Brad Hodge, Rahul Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane may not be huge strikers of the cricket ball, but are effective in this format of the game as well. Talking about explosive batsmen, Shane Watson is their biggest bet, as he proved every now and then for Rajasthan Royals ever since the first season of IPL. But, it is in the bowling department, where they lack quality. If the bowlers of the Rajasthan Royals err in line and length, they could be in for a long day.
The competition features a total of ten teams with four teams from India, two from South Africa, two from Australia, one from Caribbean and one from New Zealand. With top sides from these countries participating in the event, there should be no dearth of quality making it very difficult for anyone to choose a favourite for the tournament.
