A CHANDIGARH court on Friday sentenced to death a person found guilty of the rape and murder of a six-year-old boy in the village Kajheri, Chandigarh. The sentence was delivered five months after registration of the case. Additional District and Sessions Judge Raj Rahul Garg ordered the hanging of the accused Pappu Paswan till death, under Section 302 and 377 of the Indian Penal Code, for the rape and murder of the minor boy.
The incident happened towards the end of February when Pappu threatened Madho Shankar, a resident of the same village, as Madho could not pay an amount of Rs5,000 which he had borrowed from Pappu. Later, on February 13, Acchhe Lal, the younger son of Madho, suddenly went missing and later his elder brother said he saw Pappu take away the boy with him.
An FIR was registered on February 16 and later the police arrested the accused, Pappu, and at his instance recovered the body of Acchhe from a nearby forest. The accused also admitted that he took the child to the forest and tied him with his shirt and raped him. After the rape, the accused tried to slash the child's neck with a blade. But on failing to succeed in this, he murdered the boy by tying his neck with a rope.
