ORISSA'S CHATRAPUR block chairman N Simanchala Reddy was fatally shot in his village near Chatrapur on Wednesday. He was declared dead at MKCG Medical here in the city after doctors failed to revive him.
According to sources, unidentified persons had opened fire targeting N Simanchala Reddy at his native village in Banabulapalli near Chatrapur. Reddy was visiting his under construction house in the village.
Police said two unidentified miscreants had fired two rounds at Reddy in the evening following which he was sifted to the MKCG medical in Berhampur in a critical condition. He was declared dead. Reddy belonged to the Communist Party and he had been at political loggerheads with some influential people of the area, informed source, while adding that Simanchala happened to be the relative of N Narayan Reddy, former MLA of Chatrapur in Ganjam district.
