Check out the biggest Bollywood flops of 2017; even Salman & Shah Rukh had a mixed year
The year 2017 wasn't the best for Bollywood, in terms of movies recovering their budget, audience reactions as well as critics' response.

The most disappointing Bollywood movies of 2017 included some big projects as well that had created lot of buzz in the media, but surprisingly, did not even recover their costs.

The year saw several hyped up movies including 'Jab Harry Met Sejal,' 'Tubelight,' 'Simran,' 'Sarkar 3,' 'Rangoon,' 'Jagga Jasoos,' 'Begum Jaan' and others bombing at the box office. These movies apart from poor collections at the box office, also failed to impress the critics.

Here's a look throwback at 2017 to find out the most disappointing Bollywood releases of the year:

Rangoon: Director Vishal Bharadwaj's period film which had a big star cast including Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, was made with a decent budget of Rs 80 crore but managed to recover only Rs 41 crore at the box office. Not only that, the movie also failed to earn appreciation of critics and the audiences alike. Even the rift between Kangana and Shahid that created a major buzz in B-town before the release of the movie, couldn't save it from going down.

Jagga Jasoos: Ranbir-Katrina starrer Jagga Jasoos was one of the biggest flops of 2017 which in spite of getting good reviews from critics performed poorly at the box office. Directed by Anurag Basu, the film made with a big budget of Rs 131 crore, could only recover Rs 54.16 crore.

Raabta: Sushant Singh, who had last year given a blockbuster performance in biographical sports film - 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story', getting a thumbs up from critics over his performance in this movie, was expected to deliver again with his 2017 release 'Raabta', but the romantic thriller failed to get decent reviews upon its release. Made with a budget of Rs 50 crore, it could only recover Rs 25.67 crore.

Begum Jaan: National Film Award-winning director Srijit Mukherjee's women centric period drama failed to draw audience at the box office. However, the film managed to recover its budget cost and became an average grosser. Begum Jaan was made on a budget of Rs 19 crore and earned an estimated amount of Rs 20.68 crore.

Tubelight: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's war drama was the big and solo Eid release this year but this Bhaijaan's venture along with director Kabir Khan could not show its magic at the box office. Made with a budget of over Rs 135 crore, the film could only make Rs 119.26 crore. Overall, the film under performed at the box office and wasn't much appreciated by the critics as well.

Jab Harry Met Sejal: Shah Rhukh-Anushka starrer 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' became one of SRK's lowest opening movies ever. When National Award nominated director Imtiaz Ali signed both stars for his film, people had expected much more from SRK-Anushka's jodi who have earlier given two blockbuster hits like 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' and 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan.' But what happened was totally the opposite. The film made with a budget of over Rs 115 crore could only recover Rs 64.33 crore.

Sarkar 3: Director Ram Gopal Varma's third installment of the political thriller, 'Sarkar', starring Amitabh Bachchan yet again in the titular lead role along with Jackie Shroff, Manoj Bajpayee, Ronit Roy and Yami Gautam, was one of the biggest disappointments of 2017. Despite starring the 'Shahenshah of Bollywood' - Amitabh Bachchan, the film earned only Rs 9.93 cr.

A Gentleman: Sidharth-Jacqueline starrer romantic action comedy film had created a lot of buzz on social media before its release but the movie earned only Rs 20.59 crore. According to a source, NDTV gave the film 2 out of 5 stars concluding: "Style over substance: that's the story of A Gentleman. Strictly for Sid Malhotra fans."
