Chennai girl tops UPSC 2010 exams
S. Divyadharshini has topped the Civil Services Examination, 2010. A B.A., B.L.(Hons.) from Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai, Divyadharshini cracked the Civil Services Exam in her second attempt.

IN THE second place is Sweta Mohanty, who did B.Tech (Computer Science) from GRIET, JNTU, Hyderabad, and she made it to the final list in her third attempt.


The overall third rank and the first rank among men was achieved by RV Varun Kumar, who did his BDS from Ragas Dental College, Chennai, and he too cracked the IAS in his third attempt.

As many as 5,47,698 candidates applied for Civil Services Examination, 2010. Out of these 2,69,036 candidates appeared for the preliminary examination that took place on May 23, 2010.

From the preliminary exam, 12,491 candidates qualified to appear for the Main written examination, which was held in October-November, 2010. Only 2589 qualified for the Personality Test conducted, which was carried out in March-April, 2011.

After this thorough screening, a final list of 920 candidates (717 male and 203 female) have been earmarked to serve in the IAS, IFS, IPS and other central services.

The top 25 candidates consist of 20 males and 5 women. If the results are looked at on the basis of educational qualifications, out of the top 25 candidates, 15 belonging to Engineering; five are from Commerce, Management, Humanities, Science & Social Sciences; and candidates appearing from the Medical Science field total five.

Eight candidates have made it to the final list in their first attempt amongst the top 25. From the recommened list of 920 candidates, 28 are physically challenged, 14 are orthopaedically challenged, five are visually impaired, and nine have impaired hearing.
