A SOUTH Indian city of Tamilnadu State, Chennai has joined the elite club of cities in the country with more than one crore mobile users. Chennai is only the third city in the country to accomplish the amazing feat after National Capital Delhi and Business Capital of the country Mumbai.
Delhi comprising its NCR region is heading the elite club with 2.4 crore mobile users while Mumbai with 2.08 mobile subscribers is second in the elite club. The amazing record was made in the begining of the month August. But Chennai has the distinction of being the city with highest tele density in the country. As per the TRAI statistics, it has the teledensity of 131 per cent, which is in layman's language-131 mobile or wireless sets per 100 people. It is followed by Delhi and Mumbai with 100 per cent tele density.
Chennai, an emerging Industrial hub in the country is a highly potential market for telecom service providers. As per TRAI, at present there are seven telecom operators in the city while another one is going to launch its services within a due course of time.
