Chennai Sangamam 2010 inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi on January 10, 2010 at Island Grounds, Chennai. This year this annual event is failing during the Pongal festival.

The 4th edition of Chennai Sangamam 2010 inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi on January 10, 2010 at Island Grounds, Chennai. One week long an annual Tamil culture festival Chennai Sangamam is being organised by the Tamil Maiyam and Tamil Nadu Tourism and Culture department.
 
More than 2000 folk artists will performing around 4000 performances at various places in Chennai including beaches, parks and college & school grounds from January 10 to 16. Chennai Sangamam is one of the biggest open cultural festival of India. This year's Chennai Sangamam 2010 theme is 'Pirappokkum'. This year this annual event is failing during the Pongal festival. Pongal is a very important festival of Tamil Nadu. The inauguration ceremony of Chennai Sangamam featuring the folk music and folk dance with classical singing was held in Island Grounds, Chennai.
 
The special event of food festival, documentary film festival, rural games will also be organised during the long week culture festival. Chennai Sangamam was started in September 2006.
