Chennai to host international conference on "Expressive Arts Therapy"
A three-day international Conference on "Expressive Arts Therapy" is going to be organised at Women's Christian College in Chennai from February 15 to 17.
The conference is presented by the Psychology Department of the college and the East West Center for Counseling and Training.

The organisers inform that the Expressive Art therapy is a relatively new form of therapeutic practice that allows an individual to communicate their feelings and thoughts in a more visual, creative and imaginative ways which combines various forms such as imagery, dance, music, poetry, story-telling, dream-work, etc.

The conference aims at building awareness about Expressive Arts Therapy; highlighting relevance and uses of various art modalities; establishing codes of ethics and practitioner guidelines; updating the current trends in practice and research in expressive arts therapy and understanding the role of expressive arts therapy in HR, coaching, counseling, clinical, educational and community settings.

The therapy involves the use of a combination of the arts for therapeutic purposes in which the participants get actively engaged in processes of artistic expression and also learn the techniques for use in human resource development trainings and teaching.

Conference programme has full day parallel workshops and discussions on dance movement therapy; psychodrama; visual art therapy; storytelling for self-development on the first day.

On the last two days the sessions include panels, talks, seminars, paper presentations, and short workshops. Also, the "Expressive Arts Therapy Association of India" would be launched during the conference.
