Chennai to host two-day workshop on psychodrama for whole brain use in strategic planning
The Indian Institute of Psychodrama (IIP) in association with World Storytelling Institute (WSI) is going to organise a two-day workshop on psychodrama in Chennai on December 12 and 13 for human resource development professionals working in various organisations.

According to the key resource trainer and director of IIP Magdalene Jeyarathnam, who specialises in expressive arts therapy and psychodrama, "Psychodrama is a creative way of exploring the worlds of individuals, families, and organisations. Psychodrama uses action methods and spontaneous drama. It is an experiential group work method using dramatic enactment to explore themes, events, and stories in our lives. It is an enlivening framework in which the use of the imagination is central."

The method is a spontaneous and creative method which is used by well trained and certified psychodramtists who are usually called the Psychodrama director who enables or facilitates a re-enactment of real life situations, past incidents or situations occurring in an inner mental process by acting them out in the present time, says Jeyarathnam.

As a self-development and training tool, psycho-drama provides creative and spontaneous ideas to work productive in routine jobs since it appreciates professional and personal relationships. "Participants can look forward to two days of action packed learning aimed at personal as well as professional growth," holds out Jeyarathnam.

According to the workshop organisers, it is being advocated that there was a need for Integrating left and right sides of our brain by using creative modalities in visioning and strategic planning in organizations for which psychodrama tools can be helpful. There has been much scientific research demonstrating that neurologically, the brain has different functions in the right and left hemispheres, which can be activated.

"In this training, we will be experimenting with different creative exercises that activate our right brain and then other exercises that activate the left brain. We will integrate them in a strategic planning process for our organization. In the process, we will experience the application of a variety of modalities and techniques that can be used for a wide range of challenges that organizations face at this time," informs Jeyarathnam.
