Chennai to organize "Storytelling for and by Adults" event
The World Storytelling Institute (WSI) is organizing one-day event of "Storytelling for and by Adults" on the topic "The importance of gentleness" on May 2 at Cafe Coffee Day Square in Chennai.

A number of 10-minute stories will be narrated that would include personal-experience stories, Grandmother Stories, and stories one might make up.

"Often when telling stories we feel compelled to tell big, heroic, sensational stories - and to tell them fast and loud. This month's topic was selected in the interest of enabling storytellers to utilize a wider range of emotions and speaking styles in their performances," said the organizer and director of WSI Dr. Miller.

The event has also made provision of people's participation via phone video conference or Skype, if they are unable to attend the event in person.

"Unfortunately, in our country, teachers do not see themselves as storytellers since they think it's a theatrical and more acting and not related to them. However, teaching is performing and practice-oriented profession, therefore, teachers must acquire reasonable acting and theatrical skills to enliven their classrooms," said Jaipur-based educator Prabha Kishore while emphasizing the importance of storytelling events and workshops.

According to Alida Gersie, author of the book "Earthtales: Storytelling in Times of Change", storytelling is currently experiencing a considerable revival of interest and can be used to explore important shared themes and visions to provide practical insights into most persistent environmental difficulties currently being faced by the humanity.
