Chhattisgarh makes Parents Worship Day a compulsory observance in schools on February 14

The schools in Chhattisgarh will observe 'Matri-Pitra Pujan Divas' on February 14 in continuation with Chief Minister Raman Singh's standing orders passed last year.

The state education department of Chhattisgarh has directed all government and private schools under its jurisdiction to celebrate the Parents' Worship Day every year. Under the observance of the event, school students of the state are required to perform a prescribed worship of their parents in the school premises as per a detailed circular issued in this regard.

According to some Hindu groups, the western tradition of Valentine’s Day has converted the pious feelings of pure and selfless love into a degenerative passion and lust, and this trend needs to be checked through the celebration of Parents Worship Day on February 14.

“Celebrate ‘Love Day’ wherein children pay respect to parents and parents shower affection on their children. Will you do it my darlings? The west is on ruinous path. People there are falling prey to sexually transmitted diseases and depression celebrating the likes of ‘Valentine’s day’. Why should you imitate them?” urges a website.

According to the advocates of Parents’ Worship Day, Indians, as per their culture and traditions, must celebrate the pure selfless bond between children and parents on a global-level with the objective of creating a strong character and spirit of serving parents.
