CHICAGO'S ALINEA restaurant has been named the best restaurant in North America by the S Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards. The honor was given to the restaurant on Monday, April 26, 2010. Also the restaurant is now ranked the seventh best restaurant in the world.The ranking is three places higher than what Alinea earned last year.
The annual list has grown to become one of the most recognised international ranking systems for restaurants. It is compiled by more than 800 panelists in 26 regions of the world, that includes voting for both local and international restaurants they have visited within the past 18 months. The James Beard Foundation honored Alinea’s chef Grant Achatz with its award as the nation's top chef in 2008. In the same year Achatz was diagnosed with cancer but was cured after aggressive treatments.
Noma in Denmark came in as the best restaurant in the world followed by El Bulli of Spain in the second position and The Fat Duck at England , the third.
