But has the song really made the kind of impact that Sheila Ki Jawani or even Munni Badnaam Hui had made? Of course not! The internet is flooded by hate comments against the song and just shows the extent, to which filmmakers can go to market their product.
However, as per reports that appeared on the Times of India
on Wednesday, Chikni Chameli had 3.8 million views within a week of its release, which means that the producers will be able to recover their production costs with the help of these million people. With an ensemble cast of powerful actors like Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt
, Rishi Kapoor
and Priyanka Chopra, another million is not a distant dream.
But what was the need of including Katrina Kaif’s name in the star cast, as cited by the Times of India. Katrina who just makes a special appearance for the song may have charged the producers a fortune but at the same time doesn’t she realise that gyrating like this for a few lakhs or crores does not hike her acting bar?
Numerous critics who wait for a Katrina release pounce at the very opportunity of giving her acting skills a nice thrashing, sprung up with their jaws dropped on the floor as the lady was suspended in mid air. Testimony to this is noted film critic Rajeev Masand who tweeted "Watched the Chikni Chameli item song from Agneepath today. Boy, that Katrina can move, and how! At one point she even dangles off the roof!", as stated by the Times of India.
