A NEW study, done at thecin Germany, reveals that the most children born in the developed countries in this century will live for hundred years or more.
In an article, published in the medical journal Lancet, the researchers write that due to the advancement in the medical sciences, the process of aging is most likely to become modifiable.
A secondary analysis of a large amount of data of the year 2004-05 by James Vaupel and associates has led to the conclusion of enhanced longevity as follows:
- The life expectancy is increasing steadily in most countries much beyond thought earlier.
- In Japan more than half of the women are expected to live to 90 years of age or more.
The United States data also showed a major drop in illness and disability. The main two reasons for the change in the trend as found by the study are:
- Improvements in health care are leading to ever slowing rates of aging.
- Despite some illnesses like heart disease, cancer and diabetes are rising, advances in medical treatment help people to remain active for longer.
However, the life-style diseases like the obesity epidemic due extra weight will continue to make people more susceptible to diseases.
