Children in reality show, child labour
The problem starts from parents' high expectation from their children. From my experience I can say any damage to a child's psyche during a reality show is basically due to parents' over expectation from their children.
NOWADAYS, IN almost all TV channels have started varieties of reality show. It may be based on singing, dance, and other allied entertainment items. There is no bar of age also. We are watching every day that right from the age of seven or eight years to their mother, father, even grandma join these competitions. The tragedy is not with the parents, but with their children.
The parents’ expectation is too much from their children in any competition, may be in school class or any other extra-curricular activities. They do not consider the mental and physical ability ability of their children if they can bear the tenacity and shock of their failure to be a topper. There are a very few parents who try to feel, understand and perceive their children’s inner voice.

Similarly, the organisers of reality shows allure with such a high prize money that the parents force their children who have little passion, training and perfection etc to participate in the competition. Alas! They do not know what moral offence they are commiting.

These programmes harm the delicate minds of children. Their school education as well as extra curricular activities are affected. In addition, high expectations from children is generated and the parents too become emotionally imbalanced in the event of children not performing well.

In case of the adolescent, their psychology plays a very vital role as at this age when they try to think and behave like a hero or heroine. Their ambition in their mind is limitless. The parents should understand their drawbacks, points of lapse etc in their training and education. They should boost their children’s mental strength. They should also exhort them to ’try again and again’ if they do not succeed.

What is practically needed is to make an age bar of at least 18 years for any reality show and conduct a proper interview for both parents and their children participating in the competition.
