"BUSHR Bushr"No, No - the Chinese ambassador to the United Nations who sits in the Security Council is generally heard uttering. When an American move is made to put UN sanctions against Iran for its move to go nuclear, it is China that blocks the proceedings with its stubborn attitude.
Perhaps it is not so much to help Iran or buttress the cause of peace as it is to tall Americans that they cannot have their plans succeed unless and until they bring China on board and cajole her to say "Shih Shih"yes, okay.
Let us not forget that right from the inception of the United Nations and its charter coming into effect in 1945, China has been a permanent member of the Security Council and as such enjoys a Veto. Once a Veto is exercised, the move sounds the death knell of the resolution. In the present case of imposing sanctions against Iran to prevent it from going nuclear, no formal resolution has been moved so far.
The proposal is at the stage of informal discussion and exchange of views among important members of the Security Council. Taking advantage of the discussion stage, China wants to enlarge the gambit and include Iran too. China has advanced the argument that since Iran is listening to various proposals, why drive Iran away from the negotiating table by talking of sanctions. The mere mention of the word may raise antena and drive Iran away from the negotiating table.
It is the considered opinion of the players of international diplomacy that China is adopting this delaying tactics not to help Iran but to let America know that China is now a major player on the international stage and nothing can move forward without her consent.
The moves, counter-moves are leaked to the international media by interested parties to let the rest of the world know who are the emerging giants on the world stage. Thus China remains in the international news and many Afro-Asian nations look towards China as a benefactor. China thus makes inroads in Africa and such places in Asia where a vacuum is created by the withdrawal of America or some other European power.
The diplomatic tug of war will go on until China has reached the point of diplomatic success and impresses the Islamic world that it is China that will be their saviour against the aggression of western world. In a clash of cultures, when Christianity and Islam stand eyeball to eyeball, it is China that will play the role of an international umpire.
