Chris Simms got arrested for driving under drugs influence
Tennessee Titans backup quarterback Chris Simms got arrested in New York City on charges of driving under influence of drugs, according to police.
TENNESSEE TITANS backup quarterback Chris Simms has been arrested in New York City on charges of driving under influence of drugs, according to police.

Police said Simms, 29, was smoking marijuana after they stopped him in Manhattan at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. They said his eyes were red and his speech slurred.
Simms, who spent last season with the Denver Broncos, was awaiting indictment in Manhattan criminal court. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Simms is the son of CBS Sports analyst Phil Simms, who led the New York Giants to a 39-20 victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl XXI. Police said Tennessee Titans backup quarterback Chris Simms told them he'd been smoking marijuana before he was stopped while driving Thursday – but he said he was just talking about cigarettes.

Simms, a son of former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, called the case against him "very weak" as he left a Manhattan courthouse after his indictment on charges of driving while impaired by drugs.

"I think it speaks for itself," Simms, 29, said as he walked to a waiting car, with his pregnant wife on his arm. Released without bail, he's due back in court Aug. 23 on the misdemeanor and traffic-violation charges.
