In a new development to the foiled Christmas day terrorist attack in Detroit, terrorist outfit al Qaida has come forward claiming responsibility for the attack.
As revealed in a message that was posted in Arabic on a number of Islamic websites, the move was to rebuke strikes that took place in Yemen, allegedly beacuse of US' involvement. The message also said that the Christmas day terrorist attack backfired because they used a new type of explosive chemical which failed to ignite, primarily because of some technical fault.
Terming the attack as "heroic", the outfit expressed its delight as Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, the man involved in the foiled attempt, successfully managed to carry the explosive onboard the airliner.Earlier, Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano had ruled out claims of a bigger conspiracy behind the Detroit terrorist attack.Even now, the authorities have not confirmed the involvement of al Qaida from their end.
