Additional police force was also deployed in the town, police said, adding, the situation is tense but under control.

District BJD Chief Jayadev Parida said, “We are very sorry for the mistake which happened unknowingly and we apologise for it.” Condemning the incident, Orissa Minority Forum said, “The forum denounces this relegation of Christ's dignity by a public representative and demands that appropriate action, as per law of the land, should be undertaken. However, any reaction to this act should not allow criminals to take undue advantage and lead to a religious divide.”
