CHIEF INFORMATION Commissioner A N Tiwari has echoed voice of people when he rightly commented that the state provides security to a number of non-deserving people while it should rather provide security to RTI activists, who are under threat for exposing corruption and asking tough question from the administration.
It is an irony that criminals and corrupt people, who have entered our political system get official security, while whistle-blowers have threat to life from corrupt politicians or those patronised by these politicians. If our system cannot provide security to those, who are on a cruisade to expose corruption, then our elected representatives also should not have any right to burden exchequers heavily for their security which in most cases is nothing but status-symbol.Security-cover of all parliamentarians, members of state-legislatures and ministers (both central and state) should be abolished till foolproof security may be provided to whistle-blowers. Those, who are worried about security their life due to being in public life need not contest elections. However security-cover may continue for select very few like President, Vice President, Prime Minister and certain individuals, who are really under militant-threat.
