Interestingly, according to another RTI response, the Opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha, taking a clue from this verdict, had immediately appointed a CPIO and an appellate authority for his office, even though it wasn't directed towards him.
ACCORDING TO an RTI response, the office of the Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, is yet to comply with the provisions of the Right To Information Act. The office has not appointed a Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) and an Appellate Authority till date, apart from following directions under sections 4, 5, 6 and 7 of RTI Act.
This is despite the CIC verdict in response to a petition, which was given on Thursday, September 24. Interestingly, according to another RTI response, the Opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha, taking a clue from this verdict, had immediately appointed a CPIO and an appellate authority for his office, even though it wasn’t directed towards him. Since the Lok Sabha secretariat was directed by the CIC to assist the opposition leader in setting up an Information office, the Secretary General of the legislature should ensure immediate assistance so that this order is carried out on a priority basis.
