Process of appointing judges should be made public in interest of judiciary itself so that media may not find chance to air news-stories about allegedly wrong selection of judges and to ensure promotion to all deserving judges.

CHIEF INFORMATION Commissioner deserves all compliments for his two landmark verdicts against Supreme Court registry, which will tend to induce much-needed transparency in judicial administration system including appointment of judges in higher judiciary and effectively checking incidents approaches on judges.

Detailed verdicts will add to ensure judicial independence. Rule should be that every judge from level of lower courts to Supreme Court may compulsory put details of approaches made including name of the person approaching the judge(s) directly or indirectly so as to prevent such incidents hurting judicial independence.

Process of appointing judges should be made public in interest of judiciary itself so that media may not find chance to air news-stories about allegedly wrong selection of judges and to ensure promotion to all deserving judges. Even eminent legal luminary Fali S Nariman had to publicly speak in presence of Chief Justice of India on superseding of judges like Justice AP Shah in his elevation to Supreme Court.

Controversies like ultimate elevation of Justice AK Patnaik after superseding him three-times only after retirement of a particular collegiums-member should not be allowed to be generated because of non-transparent mode of selection of judges.

Can the High Court Collegium by setting age limit for considering persons for elevation on basis of un-constitutional guidelines, by pass Parliament which alone can amend the Constitution ? Can the Collegiume be a totally non-transparent body with no judicial or other remedy against its recommendations? Its time Judicial reforms come up fast.
