Cisco announcement: next-generation Internet router CRS-3
Cisco Systems, announced on Tuesday a next-generation Internet router for the world's largest Internet service providers, the CRS-3. A new large-scale core router, the CRS-3 is capable of handling 322 Tbps.

A new large-scale core router, the CRS-3 is capable of handling 322 Tbps. According to the Cisco System, this router is 12X as fast as the nearest competition. Cisco Systems is the world leader in computer networking gear.

Carrier Routing System (CRS-3) is a 322 Tbps of capacity and it’s a 100 Gig-E ready product. Next-generation Internet router CRS-3 also has a tight coupling to both UCS and Nexus to enable service providers to offer more competitive, cost effective cloud services. Additionally CRS-3 is IPv6 ready to prep for the explosion of mobile handsets. Cisco also claimed that CRS-1s can be field upgraded through replacing the line cards that are in it.

Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers said this new router will serve as the foundation of the next-generation Internet that will see tremendous growth due to video. Cisco Systems had invited media and analysts for the announcement of CRS-3.
