Clarke and Ponting hit double tons, put team in driver's seat
India looks in serious trouble, as they are trailing by 543 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the first innings of the fourth Test match at Adelaide. Clarke and Ponting were the heroes for the day, as both of them managed to score a double century.
INDIAN PLAYERS have made it a habit to please the Aussies on their home soil, so it does not come as a surprise, when we see the second day also going Australia’s way. At the end of second day’s play, India are 61 for the loss of 2 wickets, reported The Times Of India, after the Australians put up a score of 604 runs, when they declared their innings and put India into bat.
It was all Australia, when they walked to bat early morning today, where both the overnight batsmen,
Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke had completed their centuries, which were converted into double centuries today. The Indian bowlers could not break their partnership, hence the writing was clear on the wall and India would have a long day on the field. These two players built a huge partnership of above 300 runs, which the Indians were not able to break till Yadav took the prized scalp of Clarke, for a score of 210 runs. Later on, Ponting fell for his individual score of 221.
The Indian bowlers gave their best to break the partnership, but the two Aussie batsmen, who seemed to see the cricket ball like football, weren't to be ruffled by the weak Indian bowlers. Though, Umesh Yadav picked up the all important wicket of Clarke, but, still, it was all that he could, as he conceded above 5 runs per over in the entire innings, which was the most expensive among the bowlers. The Australian tail also got into the act, as they were eager to score quick runs and put India into bat, so they would be able to bowl more than 20 overs to the Indian batsmen.
The Indians walked into bat and they were looking good during the initial overs, as they cracked up some fine boundaries. But, Sehwag who looked promising was caught and bowled by Siddle. It was a huge disappointment, as he was the lone Indian player who could have used the pitch to his liking and belted the Aussie bowlers all around the park. Soon after, the Indian wall, Dravid also collapsed with the Indian team score on 31 runs. Gambhir and Tendulkar are still at the crease, so they would be under tremendous pressure, to perform, when they walk into bat tomorrow. Especially, Tendulkar, who has a chance to score his much awaited 100th ton on a track, which will assist batsmen.
