Class X English textbook still not available: Is CBSE losing its credibility?
There is feeling of dismay among schools, students and parents that class X English textbook has not become available yet, despite the new session having started in the first week of April.

It is learned that the book is under print since the CBSE carelessly got the book printed with errors in around 150 pages. On discovering this, the printing was stopped. Thereafter, the printing resumed with wastage of time and resources, and when the bulk of textbooks got printed, it was discovered that as per the revised curriculum, a chapter that was withdrawn had been mistakenly printed. The printing has resumed for the third time now.

"Despite the curriculum and textbook development processes have got standardised and procedures are well laid, it is grand failure of the CSBE even stick to the minimum in a literate book in which the works of established authors reproduced. If an evaluation and examination board cannot stand up to the process validation of textbook printing, it is the loss of the credibility of the examination board," said a disgusted student of Class X who is attending coaching classes during summer vacation in Jaipur these days.

I think that there is a need for 'Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation' of the CBSE itself in terms of 'institutional evaluation', 'process evaluation, 'personnel evaluation' and 'formative evaluation' periodically followed by 'capacity building' of top to lowest cadre functionaries of the CBSE to keep its evaluation-credibility intact.

Once I heard a remark that the CBSE functionaries themselves are almost 'evaluation illiterates' which I never believed, but it should be verified and research should carried out about the evaluation literacy of the CBSE functionaries themselves.
