Climate change and its effects on the health of elders
The humans' hysteria for development, progress, growth, urbanization has started rendering gloomy impact on the very foundation of the ecosystem necessary for the nurturing of the human race. Incessant uncontrolled development sooner or later was bound to explode in the form of hazardous consequences, which are posing a massive threat to the ecosystem, engulfing us.

Its repercussions are evident from the fact that glaciers are melting, monsoon patterns are changing, sea levels are rising, forcing mankind to take stringent measures to overcome the looming crisis. World leaders are pondering over ways to overcome the man made crisis, which if not defeated may lead to sustenance crisis in the days to come.

In this article, I'm making modest endeavour to come out with the effects of climate change on the elderly.

As the elders have a vulnerable immune system, extreme climatic conditions wreak havoc on their health system. Extreme rainfall or drought like conditions lead to a wide spectrum of disease in them. It further deteriorates their immune system, leading to curtailed longevity.

Impact of temperature

With climate change, temperature prediction has become unpredictable. Elders are susceptible to changing temperature. The climate change is resulting in extreme temperature conditions, in one season, it's too hot, while in the other, its chilling cold. These sort of condition results in higher mortality risk.

Air pollution

The fact that elders have a weak immune system in comparison to a normal adult makes them vulnerable to air pollution. Because of decreased mobility, change in physiology, they are more likely to suffer from diseases caused by air pollution, including asthma, and bronchitis.

Elders, who hail from economically weaker sections of the society are devoid of access to basic ingredients of life including water, electricity, road, transport, and food. During crisis, they are at greater risks as they are short of access to communication or transport system.

During the catastrophe like hurricanes, elders are more vulnerable in comparison to their younger counterparts. They are likely to suffer fatal impacts like drowning, cardiac arrest. Reason being, being an elder, they can't climb to a safer place or run towards a safer zone. In the event of evacuation too, they are likely to face issues, like swimming towards a rescue boat or climbing a rope for safe zone.

What's the solution??? How to provide healthcare to elders??? Mapping of elders would play a significant role in saving elders from. In the event of crisis, mapped elders living in the extreme zones, wherein, abrupt climatic conditions like drought or flood is expected can be easily saved. With the available data, evacuation can be carried out.
