FORMER FIRST lady, Hillary Clinton, decisively won the Puerto Rico primary, which put 55 delegates up for grabs by 68 per cent to 32 per cent of Barack Obama, but was far behind the Illinois. Front runner Obama lost over Clinton, who registered a thumping win in Puerto Rico’s Democratic presidential primary, and raised a more assertive war cry of ’popular vote’ against her African-American rival for nomination.

The latest results state Clinton’s number at 1915 including 1,624 pledged and 291 super delegates. While Obama is only 48 shy of rolling over 2,118 needed to win the party nomination for the ultimate November elections.

Clinton, after winning the Puerto Rico’s Democratic presidential primary, conveyed her point on ’popular vote’ to super delegates, who would hold the key to the final determination of Democratic nominee in the party’s Denver convention in August.

Addressing supporters in Puerto Rico, a non-compliant looking Clinton said, "We are winning the popular vote."

She stressed that she was much stronger than Obama’s position in the November presidential elections to wrest the White House from Republicans. She added that there was no candidate who could win 2,118 pledged delegates.

In the primaries on June 3 in South Dakota and Montana as the two together have only 31 delegates, with the delegate count at 2,070 , Obama would not be able to attain the majority with pledged delegates.

However, his campaign expected that with his lead in pledged delegates, super delegates would swiftly declare support to him after primaries on June 3, which would enable him to lock the nomination.
