CM Manohar Lal Khattar's Golden Jubilee gift to Karnal: Central Footwear Research Institute
Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar's Assembly constituency, Karnal will soon get a Golden Jubilee gift. The state government has requested the central government to give its formal approval for setting up of a world class Central Footwear Research Institute at Karnal.

The state government has decided to open the institute and will provide land for it. Last week, the Director General of Industries and Commerce, Haryana had written to the Chief Executive of Niti Ayog, requesting favourable consideration and formal approval for the institute.

Copy of the letter had also been sent to Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion for necessary action.

The footwear industry led by Adesh Gupta, owner of Liberty Group and Chairman, Council for Footwear Leather and Accessories has been pursuing the case.

Gupta discussed the issue with CM Manohar Lal Khattar who agreed to the demand. Notably, during a recent launching function of logo of Golden Jubilee celebrations of Haryana, held at Kingdom of Dreams at Gurgaon, Gupta had reiterated his demand for setting up of the institute.

Gupta told that the Institute will boost the leather industry besides providing direct and indirect employment to lakhs of people.

The state government has kept footwear sector in the thrust area category in its Enterprises Promotion Policy, 2015. It was also proposed to set up a footwear hub at Karnal with footwear fashion and research.
