Coal stocks improve at Haryana's thermal plants
The coal stocks at various thermal plants in Haryana have improved vastly following closure of number of thermal units as there was no demand to run these projects.

According to official sources, Yamuna Nagar thermal plant has 32 days coal stock while coal stock at Khedar and Panipat thermal plants are for 24 and 22 days respectively. This follows the purchase of 1424 MW of power by Haryana from Mundra thermal plant in Gujarat on long term basis.

Coal India has supplied 8, 81,500 metric tons of coal for three thermal plants of state in the month of February this year. This comprises 4, 19,700 MT for Panipat thermal, 3, 13,000 MT for Khedar thermal and 1, 48,800 MT for Yamuna Nagar thermal plant. Even in first six days of March Coal India has dispatched 1, 60,000 MT of coal to the three thermal plants.

The official information of Coal Ministry says that coal production has increased by 5.8% and dispatch to power sector has improved by 10.83%.

As on today, Haryana’s own generation is around 1700 MW and power demand met is more than 4000 MW. Four units of stage 1 at Panipat one unit each at Khedar and Yamuna Nagar are under shut down due to no demand.

The second unit at Khedar is under annual maintenance for a period of two months. The unit no. 2 of Yamuna Nagar thermal plant has been taken out for general maintenance following some technical problems.

Meanwhile, Haryana power Generation Engineers Association has shown its resentment against assessment of thermal plant engineers posted at Yamuna Nagar and Khedar thermal plants being carried out by a private company.

The Association has suggested that instead of any external agency, training fields of officers may be asked from their concerned controlling officer. It will be better that all those engineers  be given one year induction type training as the same was denied to them at the time of joining.

The Association has sought increase of shift duty allowance at par with NTPC and after a period of two years, he should be given one additional increment for each additional year in shift duty to compensate him for the hardship being faced in shift duty as per earlier practice.
