“Life is simple & clear
when you make a right choice,
it’s truth that you hear.
And now is the time when you ask,
not what country has done for you,
but what you have done for country”
In fact, media (newspapers and electronic media), films and daily soaps have all contributed for lowering the social values. Movies like Swades, Heroes, Hallabol, Nayak are exceptions as these have inspired and raised public consciousness against the power politics for petty gains. Citizens must recognise their roles in the society and contribute their mite by raising their voices against unlawful activities. Some people do raise their voices. But, killing own people, destroying our own property (individual and national) is certainly unthinkable. We find people burn trains and buses, slaughter and murder people in the name of region, religion or caste.
People who are creating wedge between Indians, poisoning our motherland, need to be dealt with severely. Does it make any sense to kill innocents in a fit of rage? In reality hatred and division among people have been caused by sectarian, communal and prejudiced concepts. These are propagated by dogmas that imprint bloody conflict across country.
We have to repent for all our grievous mistakes and take positive steps to rectify the same. It’s not enough to blame the system and purge our conscience of all social evils. We cannot expect the government to root out all crimes, because in a democracy, we, the people, are the government.
Let’s voice our protest as mature and understanding citizens rather than fight like cats and dogs. In the world of speed and rush there might not be enough space for Ghandism. But, there is still enough space for you, me and us.
Let’s resolve that we will not commit any crime ourselves but also that we as responsible citizens will stop anyone else from perpetrating and committing crime.
