In order to promote Commonwealth Games, a special exhibition train 'Commonwealth Express' has been arranged by Railway and IT Ministry. The train will ply on Thursday, June 24, covering almost all the states.
THE COMMONWEALTH Express is a joint project between the Information and Technology Ministry and Railway Ministry. The exhibition train will travel to each state and will stop at fifty selected stations across the country.
The special exhibition train, which comprises of 11 coaches, will reach Amritsar to match with the arrival of Queen's Baton, who is coming to India from Pakistan on June 25.
One of the railway officials said, "We have prepared the schedule of the train keeping in mind the Queen's Baton journey in the country. There will be stoppage at those stations where the baton will also reach.”
She is expected to be in Delhi on September 30. The flagging off ceremony is expected to be attended by Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and officials from the Organizing Committee, Railway Ministry and IT Ministry.Out of 11 coaches, railways will have five coaches to showcase their contribution to sports and its achievements in the sports field. The rest six coaches will be for Information and Technology to display its achievement. Railways are the major partner of the Common wealth Games and IRCTC is the official ticketing agency.Railways will make public the schedule of the train movement and its timings so that people can visit and see the Commonwealth Games presentation.The train with its decorative coaches will be displaying details of Commonwealth Games. The train will carry the symbol of Commonwealth Games and of Indian Railways.
