The CWG 2010 Queen's baton has arrived in India. It arrived at the Attari border between India and Pakistan. Suresh Kalmadi and Shiela Dikshit were present at the border when the baton arrived in India.
The latest news is that the Common Wealth Games 2010 Queen's Baton has finally arrived in India. It's the first big event on Indian soil for the CWG 2010, which would take place in New Delhi in October 2010. The Queen's baton arrived on Friday at the Attari border between India and Pakistan.
Suresh Kalmadi, Indian Olympic Association (IOC) president and other leading sports personalities along with New Delhi's chief minister Shiela Dikshit were present at the border outpost when the banton was handed over by Pakistan's Olympic Association officials led by Lt. Gen Arif Hassan.
Hundreds of people, officals and media persons were present at the Attari border checkpost, about 30km from Amritsar, Punjab. Since morning, popular song, 'Chak de, India' was being played to welcome the Queen's baton.The baton will be taken to Amritsar and remain there till Friday Night. The baton will travel 28 Indian States covering 20,000 km before reaching New Delhi for the 2010 CWG 2010,which would start Oct 3 and end on Oct 14. The baton will reach New Delhi on September 30, 2010.Bhangra and Gidda dancers performed with traditional music instruments at the border checkpost as the baton arrived in India. Even Sufi Singers Wadali brothers and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan performance added to the festive atmosphere. The baton after travelling 17,000 km through nearly 70 Commonwealth countries arrived in the host country, India for the 2010 games.
