About 7,000 athletes and officials from 71 countries and territories are participating in the Commonwealth Games 2010. The highlight of the evening will involve a huge helium balloon floating above the stadium and the 60,000 spectators cheering the players from across the world. Country's first Olympic gold medalist in the individual category, Abhinav Bindra, will bring the Queen's Baton to the opening ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.
According to sources, the Queen's baton will be received by Prince Charles and he will read out the Queen's baton message, whereas, the President of India, Pratibha Patil will announce the opening of the Games.
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the vice patron of the CGF, Prince Edward, president of CWG Federation Mike Fennell, CGF chief executive Mike Hooper and the Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi are expected to be present during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2010 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
During the 140-minute long opening ceremony of this mega sports events, thousands of school kids will present the welcome song. Many big names from Indian film industry, artists, musicians including A R Rahman are all set to enthrall the audience in the opening ceremony.
