T S Darbari, the tainted Director General of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CWG-OC) and Suresh Kalmadi's key aide was today sacked by the organising committee. After his dismissal, the charge will be now taken over by Additional Director General V K Saxena.
Darbari's termination was ordered by the Sports Ministry after allegations of corruption surfaced against him in several cases. Although the action took a long time to come, but it had become imperative as Darbari's name cropped up in a number of shady deals.
As per OC's chairman Suresh Kalmadi, the charges of corruption emerged, when Darbari was given the responsibility of handling the Queen's Baton Relay which was held in London. He further stated that a UK based company, A M Films was paid in enormous amount of money for the “services” it had rendered. The company, reports say, was recommended by the Indian High Commission in London and Kalmadi went out public to claim that the bills and statements for the “services” it rendered were tampered with. As of now, the Organising Committee's reports are not out yet.As per highly placed sources, the Sports Ministry had written several letters to OC asking for his ouster because of the cases in Enforcement Directorate and the last such communication was made on August 6. The Ministry was not happy that he was merely suspended.
