Commonwealth Games to promote sports in India
A summit was organised at Indian Habitat Centre to disuss issues like infrastructure, future of sports and importance of commonwealth games.
INDIA IS a civilization that has thousands of years of history but it is also a youthful nation and it would be a combination of both that will be showcased at the Commonwealth Games being held for the first time in this country. It is an occasion of national significance, an opportunity to showcase Indian talent, a platform to establish sports as a serious career. To promote this viewpoint  and hence there is a summit being organised in New Delhi, the venue for the summit  was Indian Habitat Centre from March 28-30 2010.

SARF, a foundation with an objective to preserve heritage and for the enhancement of knowledge together with a leading newspaper staged a summit to bring all the speakers from different countries under one umbrella and also all the stakeholders to discuss the importance of the Commonwealth Games and the future of sports

The first commonwealth games were held in 1930’s in Canada which was perceived by a Canadian gentleman named Marc Robinson in 1929. At the time it was called British Empire which was a club of white settlers. In 1954’s it was softened as British Empire and Commonwealth Games. It was then restructured as British Commonwealth in 1970’s and renamed commonwealth games.

Commonwealth games is  an intense mixing of sports and politics. In India sports is not a five letter word but it is a seven letter word that is Cricket. Commonwealth games were a political connotation. It was political game which basically meant that any nation who wants to join commonwealth has to have a relation with one of the commonwealth games nation. Cameron became a part of commonwealth by practising such a method. In 1950’s South Africa was excluded from participating because of the fact that Apartheid was still practised and African people were considered as slaves. There was a huge hue and cry when Africa requested Robert Malden who was a right extremist of racist view not to make rugby players of newzeland and Africa to meet which was rejected and hence led to boycott in 1976.

Commonwealth games have evolved from imperial games to multicultural games. It has brought together all the nations and brought different cultural ties. Commonwealth has contributed in uniting countries against Apartheid and other practices which clearly shows that it has changed from a multiracial to multicultural association. Commonwealth has given a common language to interact that is English.
