The tri-nation ODI Compaq cup promises many thrills as India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand get ready to fight it out for the top spot. While India is the favourite for the win, New Zealand would field young players and Sri Lanka would rely on team stars
UNDER THE captaincy of Mahender Singh Dhoni, Team India has achieved great feats and India has been a major force in world cricket for the last couple of years, especially in one day internationals. Wherever they went, they conquered and now it's time for the tigers to get even more ferocious as the lions and the kiwis stand in their way to the Compaq Cup 2009.
The composition and style of playing of the three teams is as different as it could get. India is a star studded team and has the right balance required for a top international side. New Zealand, on the other hand, is a young hard working side but when you see them play, you feel that there is something missing and that is experience. Sri Lanka in contrast, is not in the best of shape as far as one-day matches are concerned. They rely too heavily on their old guns and their young players have so far failed to deliver with the goods.
If history is something to go by with, India is certainly the favourite to win this series. India beat New Zealand 3-1 in the one day series at New Zealand and the lions were beaten by the tigers 3-2 inside their own den as well. In addition to that, India is placed second in the ICC ODI rankings whereas New Zealand is fifth and Sri Lanka is seventh.
It seems that it would be a walk in the park for the men in blue, but in cricket everything is possible and you never know when Sri Lanka's M factor or the young Kiwi stars could outshine the glorious team India. So grab some pop corn, get comfy on your couch in front of your TV and let the magic of cricket drive you into the world of excitement.
