Conclave of school owners and managers held at Panipat in Haryana
A five-hour conclave of eight school owners and managers was held in Panipat (Haryana) on July 30 to discuss various issues of school education and learn from one another.

Regarding the issues of 'marks economy' and 'competition' which is vitiating the institutional environment, it was said the at primary school level, when children live in the 'present moment' cooperative learning in 'caring and sharing or facilitative learning environment' is the best strategy, which should be made an essential part of education. At the higher education level 'constructive and healthy competition with strict non-negotiables' and self-reflection should be institutionalized.

It was suggested that education should be made 'inclusive' with a broader perspective as the 'truth is multi-faceted and complex entity' to keep marks economy as a smaller component of education. There are better ways of maxing one's learning achievements through alternative effective ways.

Also, a participative management consisting of representation of all the stakeholders with an aim to support learning by students should be put in place. The built-in values of education and its positive psycho-social foundations should be emphasized, it was suggested.

The conclave recommended that at pre-primary level no written work should be given to children. At the early primary level (classes 1 to 3), mastery micro-learning strategy with hands-on activities should be emphasized. The mastery on abstract codes can lead to better learning of other subjects that get introduced at upper primary school level, it was argued.

The conclave members felt that discussions were meaningful and provided concrete recommendations to take the educational institutions forward.
