Condolence meet to pay tribute to 'Amanat', a victim of the barbaric Delhi gang-rape
A condolence meeting will be held on January 5 at 5 pm in Arts College, Osmania University in Hyderabad in remembrance of the 23-year-old girl who was gand-raped by six men in a moving bus in Delhi on the night of December 16.

THE NATION's heart broke after the young girl was put through such trauma and then died after developing serious medical issues. The animal-like behavior of the men and lack of police support when required enraged the nation - who bayed for the blood of the five adult men and one juvenile accused and charged with committing the ghastly crime.

The girl, as later reports indicated, was a student brimming with dreams, was tortured, raped and assaulted. After battling for her life in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital and a hospital in Singapore - 'Amannat', a name given to her while not disclosing her real name, succumbed to severe injuries to her body.

The gruesome incident shook the conscience of the entire nation - triggering massive protests and outrage across the length and breadth of the nation. Her tragic death has galvanized people, raising demand for stringent laws to curb the menace of rape and atrocities against women.

Transforming India, a group dedicated for social causes, are organizing a condolence meet to pay homage to ‘Amanat,' an also to spread awareness about gender discrimination, and the importance of gender equality.
