In fact, the winning of Moga seat was crucial for both the major parties - Congress and Akali-BJP, which is to decide the next Lok Sabha elections. But after the loss in assembly elections of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder, the chances to win Moga seat doesn't look to be an easy task for both the parties.
After Congress lost the Moga bye-election seat despite tall claims by Capt. Amrinder Singh and party workers, the Opposition in the states and at the centre as well hope to sweep Congress in the coming Lok Sabha elections due in 2014.
Just before the Moga bye-elections, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had said that the Congress party has neither ideas nor ideology to offer as a reason why people should vote for them now or ever in future.
When a party’s sole policy and program is limited to wishful thinking about the health of its opponent, one can recommend immediate medical attention to save it. The Congress and its leaders are yet to regain full consciousness after the “sun stroke” they suffered in the assembly poll and recently in Moga bye-election.
It looks that it has now become used to the habit of losing, and these are signs of change. Congress should not forget “old habits die hard”. The Congress party needs immediate and major surgical intervention to save it from sinking even deeper into coma.
