Congress emerged as the biggest casualty of Modi's surgical strike
Repercussions of India's surgical strike in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir to avenge the Uri attack are still being felt and more so in the national capital. The latest casualty of the surgical strike seems to be the grand old party of India, the Indian National Congress and its ambitious plans for the upcoming Assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh.

The changing political scenario of the country which got tilted greatly in favour of PM Narenedra Modi after the surgical strike has compelled the Congress to postpone and downplay their plans of fielding Priyanka Gandhi for campaigning for the party in UP.

If party insiders are to be believed, Priyanka Gandhi was supposed to start campaigning for the party in UP from October but now her entry has been delayed and her role has also been trimmed.

Although upfront the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and his close aides have been issuing strong statements against PM Modi and the BJP government like his recent `khoon ki dalali' remark, behind close doors the Congress very well knows that the sentiments of the entire nation are with the ruling BJP government. The BJP government has been able to in totality encash the surgical strike and drive home the advantage.

All Rahul Gandhi managed to do at the Kisan Yatra at Jantar Mantar was further tarnish his own image and that of his party. He had said, "Our jawans who sacrificed their lives, who did surgical strikes, you are hiding behind them. Pandering their blood."

All seemed to go well before his 'khoon ki dalali' barb. After Rahul Gandhi's demeaning remarks senior Congress leaders like Kapil Sibal had to come out in his defence for damage control, which continued for a few more days. But alas! The damage had already been done.

As a result, the mood in the Congress is currently low and the party now seems to be playing the waiting game. Rahul Gandhi himself through his irresponsible statement has turned out to be yet another direct casualty of the surgical strike. All his statement has done is to further delay his much awaited coronation as the President of Congress.

At a high level meeting between Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Sheila Dixit, Raj Babbar, Sanjay Singh and strategist Prashant Kishore, held at 12 Tuglak Lane last week, it was decided to delay Priyanka's entry in the UP Assembly elections campaign and also the elevation of Rahul Gandhi as the party president.
