Congress Government in Rajasthan to introduce new school textbooks
The BJP government in Rajasthan in its five-year stint had discarded the NCERT-curriculum framework based textbooks worth crores of rupees lying in the stock and introduced the new textbook reflecting specific ideology. The major controversies had arisen regarding the new syllabus of languages, social sciences and EVS, which was criticized by many educationists and social activists.

With the Congress being back in power, once again, the new textbooks are likely to be introduced.  It is being speculated the NCERT textbook with some modification could make a comeback.

The school textbooks in Gujarat and Rajasthan under BJP regime were criticized by the opposition and educational critics for promoting PM Narendra Modi's flagship policies and political agenda by bringing in overloading of the textbooks with Hindu national icons, Vedic era characters and prayers in the language books.

The cultural bias and political intent in school new textbooks during the BJP governments in various states was criticized by intellectuals, educationists and activists. Also, many party supporters were assigned senior academic roles and they dictated the terms of revision of textbooks and their writing.

"Since a textbook organized and structured body of knowledge useful for the formal disciplinary studies, it should relate to a solid understanding of the subject matter under various grade-age appropriates topics and concept pitching. The exercises at the end of each lesson should be based on applying the concept in various relevant problems. It needs to be kept in mind that the textbook is not an assorted compilations of the topics dictated by the political power by as book of disciplinary content to aid cognitive development of children. The development of the textbook should be left entirely with the curriculum experts," says retired teacher Prabha Kishore based in Jaipur.
